What is a “bare minimum ceremony”?

This is the minimum wording I need to say (under the Marriage Act 1961) to make your marriage legal:

My name is Candice Bydder, and I am a celebrant duly authorised by law to solemnise marriages according to law.

Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter.

Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

From there, I need each of you to make legal vows to each other:

I call upon the people present to witness that I, (full name), take you, C.D. (full name), to be my lawful wedded wife / husband / spouse / partner in marriage.

BOOM! You’re married! Sign the paperwork and you’re all done!

Candice Bydder

Having worked for 10 years as a journalist working in TV, radio, print and public relations across Western Australia, I’ve developed a knack for telling a good story. Love stories are among the happiest and most uplifting stories, so a career as a marriage celebrant was a natural fit. My expertise in video and audio broadcasting is an added bonus, meaning you’ll be heard when it matters most.
