Do we have to use microphones?

No, not necessarily.

As long as you, your celebrant and the two legal witnesses can hear the ceremony, especially your legal vows, then the requirements have been met under the Marriage Act 1961.

That said, your guests are there to celebrate you and they would love to hear what you have to say!

If you’re nervous about speaking into a microphone, but still want all of your guests to hear you, there are lots of things I can do to reduce your anxiety during the ceremony.

Candice Bydder

Having worked for 10 years as a journalist working in TV, radio, print and public relations across Western Australia, I’ve developed a knack for telling a good story. Love stories are among the happiest and most uplifting stories, so a career as a marriage celebrant was a natural fit. My expertise in video and audio broadcasting is an added bonus, meaning you’ll be heard when it matters most.
